Spring Home Maintenance Checklist

With Spring finally here, it's a great time to do some inspections and maintenance on your home before the warmer months hit us. The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) has a great checklist and guide for homeowners on their website here; but here's a quick reference for Spring home maintenance:

  • Test your hot water tank to ensure no valves are stuck (temperature and pressure).
  • Check and clean or replace furnace air filters.
  • Fireplace and chimney should be cleaned and/or serviced.
  • Check air conditioning system (if you have one).
  • Turn off gas furnace and pilot lights where possible.
  • Check smoke, carbon monoxide and security alarms (replace batteries if need be).
  • Clean windows and screens.
  • Examine foundation walls for cracks, or signs of moisture.
  • Re-level exterior steps or decks.
  • Check eavestroughs and downspouts for loose joints.
  • Repair and paint fences as necessary.
  • Spring landscape maintenance.
