This week, City of Calgary road crews will start paving roads around the city, focusing on replacing damaged asphalt and repairing roads that have been waiting for improvements.

“All of this work will help keep our transportation network in good condition so it is efficient and safe for all road users including pedestrians, cyclists, transit users and motorists. Several of our paving projects this year will be welcome news to those who use these routes and have been asking for smoother roads for some time.” spokesperson Barry Poon said. This work is beginning now and will run until October, but most of the paving will happen at off-peak hours and on weekends, so not to disturb the flow of traffic too badly. However, residents in southwest Calgary should be aware of the projects in your areas.

  • 6 Avenue SW: from 10 Street to 16 Street, including the 14 Street ramps. Work being done includes concrete, milling and paving, and will involve temporary lane closures during weekends and off-peak hours.
  • 37 Street SW: from 33 Avenue to Richardson Way. Work being done includes concrete, milling and paving, and will involve temporary lane closures during weekends and off-peak hours.
  • Spruce Drive SW: from Worcester Drive to 8 Avenue. Work being done includes concrete, milling and paving, and will involve temporary lane closures during weekends and off-peak hours.
For reference, concrete refers to work on sidewalks, curbs, gutters, medians and islands. Milling refers to removing existing asphalt. Paving refers to applying new layers of asphalt and painting the traffic lines.
