The single-family home market in Calgary is off to a great start, according to new CMHC statistics. In fact, construction of single-family homes is up from last year.
Within Calgary city limits, construction was underway on 328 homes in January, which is a 21 per cent increase from last January (271 starts). Combined with Calgary's surrounding communities, single-family starts are up 31 per cent, with 441 homes in the construction phase right now.
According to the Calgary Home Builder's Association (CHBA), strong pre-sale activity and showings of new homes last Fall is contributing to the building permit numbers seen last month. Single-family home starts in Calgary actually outpaced the entire province last month.
