The great thing about September, is that the colours are changing outside but the weather (so far) is still cooperating so it's a great time to enjoy all the great parks and pathways we have in Calgary (especially the southwest).

If you're unfamiliar or just need a refresher, here's a look at the bylaws for parks and pathways:

  • Stay on all designated trails in parks
  • Littering is prohibited
  • Do not feed wildlife, including birds
  • No motorized vehicles (except powered wheelchairs)
  • Speed limit on pathways is 20 km/hour
  • Stay on the right side of pathways except to pass
  • Double yellow lines indicate no passing
  • Use a bell/whistle/horn on bicycles to signal passing others
  • Cyclists, walkers or joggers must be visible to other users of the pathway
  • All children under 18 years of age must wear a helmet while cycling
  • All bicycles must have working brakes
  • If you’re riding your bike at night, it must have at least one red taillight, one white headlight and one red reflector mounted at the rear
  • Leave the park the way you found it
  • Dogs need leashes no more than 2 metres long
  • Off-leash in designated off-leash areas
  • No cycling on a pathway with a leashed dog
  • Cleanup after your dogs
