Mark your calendars! On Wednesday, October 5th, the City of Calgary will be hosting an open house regarding the study of 50 Avenue SW between Crowchild Trail and 14A Street.
In 2009, it was reclassified as a Parkway under the Calgary Transportation Plan. This corridor study will result in a new design for 50 Avenue S.W. that will support all types of transportation, improve the look of the corridor and create a plan for future construction. [City of Calgary]
This corridor provides access to Altadore, Garrison Woods and North Glenmore Park, in addition to connecting destinations like Glenmore Athletic Park, River Park and Sandy Beach.
This study is going to identify any issues and concerns with 50 Avenue SW, providing recommendations for any future improvements. The goal is to accommodate walking, biking, driving and transit transportation; improve safety for those who use it; improved access to key destinations and better incorporate green spaces.
Both long-term and short-term improvements are being considered as part of this study, as well as low-cost changes with little or no construction.
There are several opportunities for area residents to get engaged and involved in this process:
- Open house, Wednesday, October 5th, Altadore Baptist Church (4304 16 Street SW), 5 to 8pm (drop-in format).
- Fill out the online survey until February 7th, 2017
