The Alberta Government announced today that they are committing $600 million over the next three years to fund flood mitigation projects. Here's a look at the flood mitigation project highlights:
- Storage site near Springbank Road, which will divert and store water from the Elbow River during flood conditions.
- At McLean Creek and the Elbow River, a dry dam will be placed to provide flood mitigation for Bragg Creek, Redwood Meadows and Calgary.
- A southern route for High River will direct flood water around High River and provide water storage options that can be used for irrigation.
- Underground diversion for Elbow River into the Bow River is in the study stage (report to be given to City of Calgary by end of June).
