What makes a community desirable to you? What do you love most about your favourite neighbourhoods in Calgary? A new City of Calgary initiative is asking these questions and helping builders in Calgary develop and design quality new communities.

According to the City of Calgary website:

Calgary’s Municipal Development Plan sets the foundation for this kind of planning and design over the next 30 years. A well-planned community feels safe, it sounds like kids playing outside and it looks like tree-lined streets.

Some elements of good neighbourhood design that have been outlined are: proximity to green spaces and amenities, attractive streetscapes, curb appeal, transit and walkability. So far the new initiative focuses on four main areas for upcoming communities:

  • Safe and attractive streetscapes
  • Increased walkability
  • Mixed-use land: retail, commercial, residential
  • Community centres

The City is looking for feedback on what you like most in a neighbourhood. To provide some insight, and learn more about it, check out there site.
