Residents in southwest Calgary are getting new green bins this week (and over the next few months). The City of Calgary has officially rolled out their green composting carts, delivering 320,000 yesterday alone, with deliveries continuing in the southwest quadrant.
Inside the green bins, residents will find everything they need to participate in the composting program: instructions, collection schedule, kitchen pail for collecting food scraps and compostable liner bags.
The staggered delivery will translate into a staggered pickup, with compost collection starting in the southwest the week of July 17, followed by the northwest the week of Aug. 14, the northeast the week of Sept. 4 and the southeast the week of Oct. 2. Residents are encouraged to begin putting food scraps, pet and yard waste in their new green bins one week before collection starts in their area. [Calgary Herald]
