I am proud to work in the southwest Calgary communities of Marda Loop, West Springs and Discovery Ridge (and surrounding areas), due in part to the great community engagement in these neighbourhoods. With all three of these neighbourhoods boasting community associations, residents in this area get many opportunities to meet their neighbours and enjoy their surroundings.
Here's a look at upcoming community events in Marda Loop, West Springs and Discovery Ridge:
- Farmers Market: Saturday, August 26th (and every subsequent Saturday), shop from local farmers, makers and artisans. There's fresh produce, eggs and cheese, meats, baked goods and artisan-made wares and crafts. Taking place on Saturdays from 9am to 1pm at MLCA Community Hall (upper parking lot), 3130 16 Street SW.
- Movie in the Park: Friday, September 15th, enjoy a movie in the park and celebrate the Marda Loop Communities Association 60th birthday. Starting at 5pm, there will be entertainment, a BBQ and a family-friendly movie starting at dusk. Cost is $5 per family, and includes popcorn and water, but bring your own blankets and lawn chairs. Taking place at MLCA Community Hall at 3130 16 Street SW.
- Canada 150 Celebration on the Hill: Saturday, September 2nd, this is a co-hosted event with the communities of Coach Hill, Patterson, Springbank Hill, Signal Hill, Strathcona, Christie Park, Aspen Woods, West Springs and Cougar Ridge. The event runs from 9am to 4pm and features a citizenship ceremony, pancake breakfast, family areas, BBQ lunch and open house. Happening at 277 Strathcona Drive SW.
- Music in the Park: a family-friendly event featuring five live musical acts, beer and wine gardens, food and more. I am also very proud to be sponsoring this event. Taking place on Saturday, September 9th at the Discovery Ridge Community Association (next to the tennis courts).
