The annual 'Calgary's Best Neighbourhoods' survey is out by Avenue Magazine, and Calgarians are asked to vote for their communities. I have been priveleged to work in some great SW communities, and here's a list of some communities I think should make the top 50 list.
Christie Park Estates: This upscale community in the southwest quadrant of Calgary, is bounded by Strathcona Park and 17th Avenue. The neighbourhood was established in 1990, and is now home to over 2,871 residents. Read my summary on this community here.
Signall Hill: Signal Hill is home to 13,912 residents, and contains the neighbourhoods of Sienna Hills and Signal Ridge as well. Situated in the southwest quadrant of Calgary, near Sarcee Trail, the community is full of great shopping and recreation. Read my summary of Signal Hill here.
Richmond: One of the older communities in Calgary’s southwest quadrant, Richmond was established in 1950. Straddling both sides of Crowchild Trail, the community is situated on the south side of 17th Avenue, offering great proximity to downtown and uptown 17th Avenue shopping to its 3,985 residents. Read my profile of Richmond here.
Discovery Ridge: When the community of Discovery Ridge first began construction in 1990, it was planned to be a gated community, but the area we know today is fully accessible by the public. Located at the southwest edge of the city, the neighbourhood is home to 4,286 people. You can read my summary of Discovery Ridge here.
Strathcona Park: Situated in the middle of several main roadways in the city’s southwest, Strathcona Park was established as a community in 1980. Built on a plateau, the neighbourhood offers beautiful views of the Bow and Elbow Rivers, along with an easy commute to downtown Calgary. Read my profile of the community here.
Aspen Woods: The neighbourhood is comprised mainly of single-family homes and some acreage properties. Located just on the north side of 17th Avenue SW, it provides easy access to downtown Calgary. Here's my profile of this SW community.
Springbank Hill: The community of Springbank Hill is a large and diverse suburb near the western city limit of Calgary. Comprised of numerous subdivisions including Springborough and Montreux, Springbank has developed into a large community and one of the wealthiest regions in the Greater Calgary area. My summary of this community is here.
West Springs: Located in the southwest quadrant of the city, West Springs is bordered by Springbank to the west, and Cougar Ridge to the north; the western extension of the community is called Wentworth. Offering a variety of well-appointed homes, West Springs is only a 15-minute commute to downtown Calgary. My profile of the community is here.
